Hi. My name is Jeromy Cox. I'm the writer/artist/creator of Vampyrates. I started work on this book many moons ago. Thanks to some earnest prodding from my friends Lee and Dennis, Vampyrates is finally seeing print. I hope you enjoy the books as much as I've enjoyed creating it.
The whole idea for Vampyrates came from my good friend Kevin Ring. Way back around 1994 or 95, Kevin, his wife Anne Marie, my future wife Claudia and I met up at Disneyland for their special Halloween exstravaganza. Kevin dressed up as a pirate. Upon smiling, Kevin's fangs revealed his true costume. A Vampyrate. The rest is history.
I met John Tighe around 1993. We both worked at Jim Lee's Wildstorm Studios. I was a colorist and John was an inker. John is responsible for nearly all of the inks on Vampyrates. I haven't had much luck with inkers (my fault)... but John has similar comic influences.. so he was perfect for the book.
Tom McWeeny is another friend/inker from Wildstorm. He was responsible for inking the very first rendering of Vampyrates I ever did. If you see the pencils and then see Tom's inks... you'll see what an incredible artisan Tom is. We also worked on the manliest comic of all times. It was an issue of Team 7 and the creators included. Chuck Dixon/Jason Johnson/Tom McWeeny and myself, Jeromy Cox.
Mike S. Miller was a studio mate from way back when. We shared Caellum studios with Ben Herrera, Ellis Goodson, Mike Christian, Scott Benefiel, Mike and myself. Mike was the original inker for Vampyrates, but his schedule proved to busy to complete the book. He inkied about three of the pages.
I met Todd Klein while working on Alan Moore's Promethea. He is the most incredible letterer on the face of the planet and when he agreed to do the the logo for Vampyrates... let's just say I was overjoyed. I mentioned how it would be cool if the logo looked like fangs and about a week later I received the gem at the top of the page... the logo makes the book look that much more proffesional. Thanks again, Todd.
J.H. Williams III draws Promethea and he was kind enough to do the beautiful cover you can find in the gallery section. I started coloring Promethea on issue 4 and to see J.H. evolve from a great artist to a friggin incredible artists has been a personnal joy.
Lee Kohse and Dennis Greenhill rescued Vampyrates from my drawing table, where it has set for the last three years gathering dust. Their deciding to publish the book has renewed my spirits to draw comics again. I think Vampyrates fits in good with the rest of the Bloodfire line of books.
Fans.... this is for all of the fans at the cons who keep asking me where Zombie Love is and when is Vampyrates coming out. Thanks for your patience and I hope you enjoy the book.
