1:25 PM - Light next to Dark. Mixed emotions. We've decided upon our cast and our test shoot date worked out wonderfully, but then my Grandmother died. Wow... I haven't cried yet.. but I just started welling up after typing those words. My Grandmother died the other day. Man... that's rough. I loved my grandma a lot. Her name was Doris Cox... she was an artist and she was the former head of the San Diego Arts Guild...she was an art teacher for the San Diego school district... she' s taught oil painting, watercolor, ceramics... everything... she was an amazing artist. She taught hundreds of people how to draw... including me. She taught me everything I ever needed to know about art....if not directly, I indirectly learned it from one of the many art books or magazines she gave me over the years... I remember sitting in her house in the early seventies watching Lawrence Welk or the Sonny and Cher show while she would teach me about art. I would pour through her art books and she would do crosswords. My grandfather usually went to bed early... so it would be me and my grandmother talking about art and leafing through giant art books. I used to go to her art shows in the Spanish Village at Balboa park... always exposing me to art and making me realize that artists can do their art for a living and enjoy it the entire time. Again, my grandmother taught me a lot about art... light and shadows, perspective, composition, anatomy, story, depth, and light next to dark. That's the most important thing I ever learned from her. You can't really see things unless you have some contrast... some light next to dark.

Okay.. this is suppossed to be a romantic comedy... thanks much...

Merry Christmas,

Jeromy

Today's recommended film "Blazing Saddles " This movie has to be in the top three of finniest movies of all time. I know a lot of people don't like Mel Brooks.. but then again.. there's a lot of people that think Hitler had a couple of good ideas... so screw em.... I love this movie... I wish I had the DVD right now... it would definetly cheer me up... oh well.. I'll just have to imagine Mongo... or Lily Von Trapp... or Howard Johnson....
