BEHIND THE SCENES...

LETTER TO THE SDGOTH LIST 04/25/03

Hola,
My name is Jeromy Cox and I'm attempting to make a romantic comedy here in San Diego entitled "Gothic Cowboy"
I'm writing to let those of you who may be interested in film making or acting that we're having our final casting Thursday night at the Park Manor Suites in Hillcrest. April 24th, 7pm to be exact.
If you'd like more information about the movie or the casting, please visit our website...
http://www.violetant.com/gothic_cowboy.html
You can find directions to tomorrow nights reading here...
http://www.violetant.com/gothic_cowboy_park.htmlWhat are we looking for?
Actors... this isn't a paying endeavour.. but if you're looking for the experience or enjoy the concept of working on an independent film.. than check us out.
Dancers... We can't afford to fill the film with great dancers.. but we're looking for six to ten proffesional dancers that we can populate the foreground with so my cousins in the background don't look so bad. Heh.. nepotism works in politics, why not in film... seriously.. asking someone that doesn't attend goth clubs to dance to gothic music.. looks pretty bad.. so we could definetly use your help.
Extras.... the more unique the better. I'll be able to popullate my film with plenty of friends and family as extras.. but it's not going to look as good as the real thing... obviously. We won't be shooting our club scenes until the end of June.. or possibly the end of August.. but when we do, we'll have three solid days of shooting for goth clubs.. There are three diffenent nights that transpire in the film.. so I'm hoping to not see the same guy with a shaved head in all the three scenes... or the same greedo in...ooopss.. wrong film...
Crew... We're going to run a pretty small crew.. but if you have experience with lighting or sound... we'd love to hear from you, even if it's just to chat through e-mail. Do you have any connections with companies that produce goth clothing, make up or wigs?
Locations... we're trying to lock down some locations right now.. but if you have any connections to people that own returaunts/clubs/bars/zoos... okay.. I'm probably stretching on that last one.. but we can use as much help as possible. Money we don't spend on locations can be used more creatively elsewhere.
Music.... do you have connections with goth/industrial lables... do you know a friend or band that would like the exposure or are just interested in hearing their music in a film? We're interested in talking with you. I'm starting to sound like a recruiter...
If I'm interchanging I's with We's.. please excuse me.. I sometimes speak for my producer and I in the first person.. nasty habbit... my producers name is Lance HaunRogue... lance@roguecreations.com I'm introducing Lance.. because he's a great contact if you have any specific questions. I'll answer them also.. but you have a better chance at getting them sooner if you ask him. My grammar feels out of whack this evening...
On a completely different note... if you're wondering if I'm just trying to use the goth community for my own evil plans.. okay.. maybe I am.. just kidding... I just want to let you know I'm a third generation San Diegan.. so I'm not going anywhere... I've been going to goth/industrial clubs since the mid eighties..(feeling old).. I think my heart and mind are in the right place.. you'll just have to come by tomorrow night to see if this is the thing for you.
Lastly, on the eve of starting production... I just want to thank the SD goth list for hearing and helping us out. I've met a number of you that surely will make our film that much better. I'd also like to thank Bryan and Linda for letting us flyer at their clubs over the last four months. Sabbat and Therapy are huge inspirations for the film and we greatly appreciate them and anyone who attended the club with putting up with us.
So if you're at all interested.. or know someone that would.. head on over to the Park tomorrow... if the crew's not to wiped out.. we'll probably head over to Club Eighties and relax. mmmmm Guinessss......
Damn I'm wordy...
Thanks,
Jeromy

LETTER TO THE SDGOTH LIST 01/25/02

Hola,
Actor? Actress? Interested in movie making? Well I am. I'm making my own romantic comedy here in San Diego and I need help. Now, we're talking little to no budget... so this is extremely indie, i.e.... we plan on making no money.. but we're hoping to have a damn good time.

You might be asking "Why is this guy posting to the goth list?" Well, my movie is entitled "Gothic Cowboy" and the lead characters are in to the goth/industrial scene. Now you may be asking yourself "What does guy think he knows about the goth scene." You probably got me there. I'm no afficionado. I could try saying I've been listening to goth/industrial music for the last 15 years or I've published my own dark gothic horror romance comics or I've been going to the clubs for the last 12 years.... but that doesn't say anything.
Here's what I am trying to say. I want help from the local scene so that the gothic parts of my movie don't come out like bad hollywood (insert joke here) movies do goth. The first quarter of the film takes place in a goth club. First act pretty much starts and ends there. So I need really good dancers... interesting looking people... and above all people that are into it to have a good time. Check the sabotage at the door.
I plan on having a better synopsis of the film up soon, but just to give you an idea... this is not a gun fighter movie.. this is not a horror movie... this is not an Ivory/Merchant film. So far the people that have read the script are saying kevinsmithyofficespacey with a gothic flavor... I'm not saying that.. but that's the feedback I'm getting. (I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing?)
Anyhoo, if you're at all interested or know someone that might be interested.. we're having a casting/reading/"taking information from people" day two weeks from today. Here's the link with all of the information.

We're looking for actors/extras/dancers/crew... and as far as "Are you only looking for pretty people?" Hell no... I want all types... freaks, doms, subs, geeks, giants, vixens, rustlers, cut-throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperadoes, mugs, pugs, thugs, nit-wits, half-wits, dim-wits, vipers, snipers, con-men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bush-whackers, horn-swagglers, horse-thieves, bull-dykes, train-robbers, bank-robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers, and Methodists....
ooopppss... sorry, lost my train of thought. By the way my name is Jeromy.. I'm a half way decent guy... wookie like... don't be affraid...
Thanks much,
Jeromy
